UMC Cross

What you need to know

We are a family of Christian believers under the leadership of God our Father. As a fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ we strengthen and support each other, as well as serving the needs of the community, in the areas of worship, witness, evangelism, teaching, youth ministry, nurturing, and community service. We are committed to the continuing support of our Christian family, both spiritually and morally, by emphasizing Bible education. Under the direction of the Holy Spirit, we will prayerfully discern the needs and programs to achieve the goals given us by Jesus Christ. The force behind our commitment is the love and faith of God.

Where is the Church?
First UMC of Gilbert is located on the East side of Cooper Road, in between Elliot and Warner Roads (just South of Madera Parc Drive). The address is 331 S. Cooper Road, Gilbert, Arizona, 85233. Google Maps may be helpful in planning your route.

Where do I park?
On Sunday mornings, parking is available in two lots. The lot at the front of the church can be accessed via Cooper Road. The lot at the back of the church (closest to the Sunday School classrooms) can be accessed by following Madera Parc Drive East from Cooper Road, then turning South into the lot).

What will the service be like?
Depending on which service you attend, you'll experience different worship and music styles. The 8:15am and 9:45am services are more Traditional, with the Chancel Choir and traditional worship. The 11:15am service has a Contemporary feel, with music from the Praise Band. The 9:45 service generally has the largest attendence. Additionally, we have a Hispanic service at 12:00pm.

Must I be a member of First UMC of Gilbert to partake in Communion?
The Communion table is open to anyone who seeks to respond to Christ's love... adults and children are welcome. Read more about the United Methodist Church's stance on Communion.

Is there a dress code at First UMC of Gilbert?
"Mortals look on the outward appearance but the Lord looks on the heart." (1 Samual 16:7)
Wear what makes you comfortable. It is Arizona and it can get hot! On any given Sunday, given the season and temperature, a range of styles can be viewed... from suits to business casual to shorts.

How early should I arrive for service?
Arriving 10 to 15 minutes prior to the start of service will give you an opportunity to find a parking space, escort children to Sunday School if necessary, and find a seat in the Sanctuary. We also have a time of fellowship in between services in the Activity Center where you can enjoy a cup of coffee
while visiting with friends. This is offered both from 9:15 - 9:45 and from 10:45 - 11:15.

Where do my children go during service?
Children are welcome to attend any of the Worship services with their parents, but we also offer exciting and educational Sunday School classes for Preschool (3 yrs) up through Senior High. Nursery care is also available for infants and toddlers. Our Sunday School schedule including classroom locations is available on our Worship page.
Many parents have their young children sit in any of our first three services until the Children's Moment has concluded, and then they escort them to their appropriate Sunday School classes.
